Today's report is by Avigail.
Early this morning we awoke for a "traditional" Israeli breakfast. At least, it was just like every other breakfast we've had here in Ha Aretz.
After breakfast we left for Kibbutz Lotan, a small kibbutz that does lots of work with dairy products. At home, the preschool adopted a calf, so that made the stop sort of special for us. My dad and I gave the calves our hands and they sucked on them. Cows have very rough tongues! We also took a short tour of the kibbutz. There were lots of dogs running around, one of whom followed us all over and tried to get on the bus with us. Tzvika, our tour guide, wouldn' t let her on with us.
Then we went up a HUGE hill and saw the Ramon Crater.
Today we spent some time up in the Ramon Crater. There was a beautiful view from on top. We ate a small lunch up there as well.
Afterwards we went to Avdat, a Nabatean city that was later Romanized. We learned that if you had water in the desert, you had power. The Nabateans had power but it was obviously not enough because they were conquered by the Byzantine empire.
After we left Avdat we visited the grave of David Ben Gurion the first prime minister of the State of Israel. It overlooks the beautiful Nachal Zin.
We then spent a very long 2/2.5 hours in our bus heading for Tel Aviv. Once we got to Tel Aviv everyone washed up and went our somewhat separate ways to dinner. My group went to the Hard Rock Cafe. We ate a decent meal and walked back to the hotel either along the beach or on Dizengof Street. And that was how we spent New Year's day here in Israel.
We owe special thanks to Nisus Software Inc. of Solana Beach, CA for making a PowerBook 520 available and Qualcomm Inc. of San Diego, CA for making an Olympus D-300L digital camera available.
Special thanks also to Joe and Dave of Computergeeks for space on their server.
Many thanks also to Lila Abrams of Abrams Travel, Inc. (1-800-338-7075) and her tireless efforts to make this trip a success.
