We did our best to update this site daily during the time of the tour.
Different members of the group took turns reporting on the day's events and we had a digital camera with us to add photographs of our activities. Each day's report is available from the date heading below.
If additional individuals wish to add their own personal response to a particular day these will appear as separate pages to which you can link from their name (each kid wrote a report for a particular day) at the bottom of this file.
Depart Adat Shalom Synagogue by bus for Los Angeles International Airport. Board our El Al Israel Airlines flight for Tel Aviv.
Arrival at Ben Gurion Airport. Transfer to Jerusalem. Overnight, Jerusalem.
Drive to the Old City of Jerusalem. Visit the Western Wall and the Rabbi's Tunnel, Cardo, Mt. Zion. In the afternoon, explore Machane Yehuda. Welcome Shabbat at the Western Wall and return to our hotel for dinner and overnight, Jerusalem.
Shabbat Services at Hebrew Union College Synagogue. This is a good time for family visits. Shabbat at leisure. Overnight, Jerusalem.
Visit the new Supreme Court building and the Hadassah Forest, where we have the opportunity to plant trees. Pay our respect on Mt. Herzl at the grave of Yitzchak Rabin. Return to the New City for Jerusalem Games. Tour Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Memorial. Overnight, Jerusalem.
Early morning drive to the Mount of Olives to view Jerusalem. Then off to Qumran. Visit the area of the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Stop at Ein Gedi to view David's Waterfall and continue to Masada. Tour the mountain fortress. Stop at the Dead Sea to enable those who so wish to float in the healing waters. Drive via the Arava for a chance to behold the natural beauty of the desert. Arrive in Eilat. Evening stroll. Overnight, Eilat.
City tour of Eilat, including the Underwater Observatory and an Eilat stone mine factory. The young people get a chance to ride a camel. Rest of day free for water activities in the Red Sea. Cross over to Egypt to "celebrate" "New Year's Eve", Overnight in Eilat.
Drive to Kibbutz Lotan, the Reform Movement's Kibbutz for a first hand view of a working kibbutz where the Ganon Gil Pre School of Temple Adat Shalom has adopted a calf. Continue to the Ramon Crater and the Visitors Center and then explore the ancient Nabatean city of Avdat. Proceed to Sde Boker, David Ben Gurion's home in the Negev, on the way to Beer Sheva. See a modern city making the desert bloom. Arrive in Tel Aviv and check into your hotel. Overnight, Tel Aviv.
Depart the modern city of Tel Aviv and Jaffa. Drive to the campus of Tel Aviv University. Visit the Diaspora Museum. Stop off at the Weizman Institute in Rehovot for a short visit then proceed to the Ayalon Institute. See how a kibbutz laundry and bakery served as a cover for the start of the Israel defense industry. Return to Jerusalem and check into our hotel.
Today we are all archaeologists. Special "Dig for a Day" archaeological experience. Return to Jerusalem for some last minute shopping. Shabbat dinner and overnight, Jerusalem.
Opportunity to visit one of the many local synagogues. Celebrate Havdallah on the rooftop of our hotel overlooking all of Jerusalem. Farewell dinner before late evening transfer to airport.
Return flight to USA. Arrive in Los Angeles the same day and continue by private chartered bus to the synagogue.
